One new COVID-19 case reported in Jackson County 6.29.2020
Jackson County Health Department was notified of one additional case of COVID-19 in Jackson County
over the past 24 hours. The individual is a male, preteen/teen, who acquired the disease through
contact with a known case. He is being placed in isolation.
No new cases were reported in Jackson County over the weekend. To date, there have been 328
confirmed cases in the county, including 19 related deaths. Two additional individuals were released
from isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines, bringing the total released to 294 individuals. Fifteen
active cases are currently being managed.
If you have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, loss of taste or smell, nausea or
diarrhea, call your health care provider for further guidance. Three providers are conducting COVID-19
testing of eligible individuals in Jackson County: Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) – Call 1-844-988-7800;
Shawnee Health Service – Call 618-519-9200; and SIU Center for Family Medicine – Call 618-536-6621.
Also, the State of Illinois has established a temporary testing site at the SIU-C Recreation Center, north
side parking lot. The site is open daily through Sunday, July 5, from 9am-5pm; except the site will be
closed on Saturday, July 4. Testing is open to all Illinois residents; participants do not need to be
symptomatic or have a known exposure. There is no cost to be tested; participants should bring their
insurance card if they have one, but no one will be turned away for lack of insurance. Participants must
provide phone number and current address to ensure results can be received. The site should be
entered on S. Marion St., accessed via E. Mill St. Follow signage.
