• One death & eleven new COVID-19 positives in Jackson County

    Jackson County Health Department sadly announces the death of a woman in her nineties, who was previously confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. Her death is the eleventh to date in the county related to the disease.

    The Health Department was also notified in the past 24 hours of seven Jackson County residents confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. These individuals include:
    • Female – one in her teens, two in their thirties and one in her forties;
    • Male – one in his teens, one in his twenties and one in his sixties.

    All acquired the disease through close contact with a known case, or through transmission in the community (i.e., unable to trace back to a known source). They are being placed in isolation.

    To date, there have been 300 laboratory confirmed cases in Jackson County, including eleven deaths related to the disease. Ten additional individuals were released from isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines, bringing the total released to date to 241 individuals. Forty-eight active cases are currently being managed.

    The Southern Illinois Region recently moved to Phase 3 in the Restore Illinois plan. Jackson County Health Department recommends that businesses and organizations follow the guidance to help reduce the risk of their employees, customers and clients of contracting COVID-19. The “Phase 3 Guidelines for Reopening Business and Returning People to Work Safely” can be found at www2.illinois.gov/dceo. There are common guidelines listed for all types of businesses, plus industry specific guidance.

    If you have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, loss of taste or smell, nausea or diarrhea, call your health care provider for further guidance.
