As a part of the Lights Fantastic festivities, again this year Carbondale Community Arts and Carbondale Main Street co-sponsored a storefront decorating contest among local businesses. This year’s theme was “Gingerbread.”
Participants included: Carbondale Park District LIFE Center, Carbondale Tourism, Carbondale Trophy, Castle Perilous Games, Cristaudo's Bakery and Cafe, Dona Camilla, Evolve Apartments, Fringe the Salon, Global Gourmet, Hairbrains Salon, Kids Korner, Longbranch Bakery and Café, Manny’s Spirits, Food & Gaming, Phoenix Cycle, Salon Euphoria, and Yesteryear Tobacconist.
Windows were painted, lit, embellished and beautifully decorated and all look fantastic!
After the judging was completed, Salon Euphoria came in third a charming painted vignette of two gingerbread friends greeting passers-by from a snowy landscape in front of their cozy gingerbread house.
Cristaudo’s placed second, with artfully painted gingerbread people frolicking across their windows. They sled, ski and play amongst the snowy landscape of sweets, with the storefront awning and windows festively draped with twinkling lights, adding to the scene. The enchanting result is a collaboration between many of Cristaudo’s artistically talented staff.
Carbondale Tourism was selected as this year’s first place winner with their creative three-dimensional interpretation of this year’s theme, depicting a delightful winter scene with Santa's sleigh cruising down Ginger Lane through the snow and twinkling lights to deliver presents to the colorfully embellished home of the Gingerbread family.
Please show support for these local businesses during this (and any) time of year, their efforts in creating a festive atmosphere on parade day and all winter long!
