• LET’S GET REAL ABOUT RECYCLING: Presentation for America Recycles Day

    November 08, 2019
Keep Carbondale Beautiful is marking America Recycles Day with a call for people to bring new ideas on ways to reduce, re-use, and recycle.   Presentations followed by a brainstorming session will be held on Thursday, November 14 at the Carbondale Civic Center, starting at 7 pm. If you have some tricks to share, or just want to move closer to a zero waste lifestyle, your presence is requested.

For decades, the promise of recycling has allowed people to increase their consumption of packaging, especially single-use plastics.  Market changes have restricted the opportunities to recycle, but consumption rates have not gone down accordingly.  KCB director Sarah Heyer sayid, “What’s needed is a two-pronged approach: first, avoid single-use containers by re-using bags and rejecting excess packaging.  And second, maximize recycling.  We’ll talk about ways to do both those things, with help from SIUC Sustainability and Terracycle recycling.
