• Carbondale Comes Together for 19th Annual For Kids' Sake Art Auction Closing Celebration

    April 29, 2019
Local nonprofit For Kids’ Sake celebrated its 19th Annual Art Auction with a tremendous Closing Celebration on Friday, April 26. Hundreds of people filled the Longbranch Café & Bakery inside and out to support children in Bangladesh. So far, the Art Auction has resulted in $23,000 raised and donations are still being accepted.
Every year, the Closing Celebration unifies people of all ages and backgrounds. This inspiring event honored local student artists, children in the performing arts, and thousands of kids in Bangladesh. Live performances including the Southern Illinois Dance Company and the Bangladeshi band “Lost in Translation” entertained the crowd while artists interviews on-stage touched everyone’s hearts. A student artist you know could be on stage next year. For Kids’ Sake is already accepting art submissions for the 2020 Art Auction.
Throughout the evening, participants also became inspired by the message to “Be a Friend of For Kids’ Sake.” Numerous supporters signed up to give monthly to help provide a stable foundation for children in Bangladesh.
For Kids' Sake thanks everyone who helped make this event possible. Local businesses donated their goods and services, local musicians and performers offered live entertainment, and teams of volunteers came together for an unforgettable evening. An extremely heartfelt thanks is extended to all the kids who made art and helped their peers on the other side of the world!
