Programs & Committees

The following programs and committees are the lifeblood of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. Committees are the way to get involved and take ownership of your Chamber. Join a committee, meet new people, plan fabulous events, and take an active role in the goals and objectives of your Chamber of Commerce.

Leadership Carbondale

Leadership Carbondale is a program designed to develop effective leaders by enhancing their civic, social, and professional skills to positively impact our community.

Futures Program

The Futures Program is an initiative to help local youth acquire proper employability skills and gain workplace experience. It focuses on youth who otherwise might not have exposure to such opportunities and may not plan on pursuing a postsecondary education.

Ambassadors Committee

The Ambassadors Committee is the Chamber’s largest committee. Its members represent the Chamber at ribbon cuttings and Business After Hours events. This Committee promotes business in Carbondale in various ways.

Saluki Pride Committee

The Saluki Pride Committee’s purpose is to provide support and awareness throughout the community to encourage the “town-town” relationship between Carbondale and Southern Illinois University.

Government Affairs Committee

The Government Affairs Committee discusses and researches pertinent state, local and national issues to help the Chamber best represent views and opinions that are of interest to its membership. In 2008, this committee was responsible for the Shop Southern Illinois initiative, a regional push for residents to support local businesses. In 2009, the Committee sponsored a candidate form for the local city council election.
